We are a team of educators, librarians, education researchers, city officials, local historians, and stakeholders from Alcoa-Maryville. We are interested in using our own communities as the content of teaching and learning and providing students the agency to research and craft stories about how Alcoa-Maryville got where we are today.

How we got started |
Where we're going |
This effort began as a conversation between Maryville's Mayoral Office, a group of teachers and historians, and education researchers. We felt that it was a good time to highlight the many stories of our area that have made the schools, the place, and the people exceptional.

We are supporting students to research and create digital, mobile stories of Alcoa and Maryville. Participating students will learn how to use place-based technologies, do archival research, and build digital narratives for a mobile application. This app will inform residents, visitors, and future students of histories that make our place distinctive.
